Tarot

When I mention to someone who doesn't know me that I do Tarot readings, it usually inspires curiosity and sometimes fear. The Tarot isn't a tool that everyone is comfortable using, and divination is often seen as a game or a trick. My view is that doing a Tarot reading helps us to connect to our unconscious or subconscious mind through the images and symbols to clarify what is happening in our life right now and where this path may lead. That's more than some people want to know and that's just fine! Living in the moment is an excellent way to live.

Throughout time, men and women have looked to find meaning and guidance for their lives. People have a need to reach beyond the restrictions of conventional thought and tap into the help available to them from their own inner minds and from outside their world, from the universe. Some gifted or well-developed practitioners are able to tap into the universe by thought alone. Some are able to tap into it by meditation. Others seek help from nature, and try to commune with the universe by spending time, for example, in the woodland. Still others make use of an ancient method of divination, the Tarot. Cards.

The Tarot is chock full of archetypes, dreamscapes, symbols, and warnings to help clarify what my intuition is telling me. Each reading tells a story of what has been, what is, and what may yet come to be. The future is not written in stone. As you look down a road you can see where it may lead, but whether you take that road is up to you.

The Tarot has developed over the past five hundred years, and the modern Tarot decks are believed to have their origins in Italy. They have become an art form and a serious method of divination. People collect tarot decks, study tarot, and create their own tarot decks. The decks have changed from being similar to our regular playing cards, consisting only of a suit and a number, to complex pictures containing definite visual messages. The tarot reader can easily interpret these interesting pictures, far more easily than regular playing cards. The design and nature of tarot cards is evolving, and will undoubtedly continue to grow and possibly even change form again, as any living body of knowledge does.

Tarot cards are in tune with that part of our psyche where many mysteries reside. The designs on the cards turn on the "light bulb" in our minds because they are pictures -symbolic representations of ideas, as well as works of art that resonate with us. As it is said, "a picture is worth a thousand words", and the tarot is a vibrant example of this. Tarot has a structure that is both logical, in that it is numerically ordered, and functional, in that the symbols connect to life's events and experiences.

You may find the symbolism too complex, and therefore would like help to interpret what the cards mean. The position and orientation of the cards in the spread are just as important as the cards themselves.
